  18. MODIFYING THE ENVIRONMENT:
  19. --------------------------
  20. The  'REMINDERS' application program may require  more  intensive
  21. disk utilization than other programs you are currently using. DOS
  22. permits you to alter the environment to facilitate this intensive
  23. disk utilization.
  24.  
  25. It is recommended that you create a CONFIG.SYS file (if the  file
  26. is   not  there  already)  which  contains  the   following   two
  27. statements.
  28.  
  29.        FILES=20
  30.        BUFFERS=8
  31.  
  32. DOS  looks  for  the CONFIG.SYS file each time  the  computer  is
  33. turned  on  (or  "re-booted").   When  the  file  is  found,  the
  34. operating  system  alters the environment  corresponding  to  the
  35. contents of the file.

  37. To print the 'REMENU.DOC' file enter the following commands:
  38.  
  39.              COPY A:REMENU.DOC PRN <enter>
  40.

  42. INSTALLING 'REMINDERS' ON SYSTEMS WITH A HARD DISK DRIVE:
  43. --------------------------------------------------------
  44. The diskette that your copy of 'REMINDERS' was distributed to you
  45. on  should  not be used for running of  'REMINDERS'.  You  should
  46. first  make  a  back-up copy of the distribution  disk  and  then
  47. install  'REMINDERS'  on  either your hard disk  or  floppy  disk
  48. system.

  50. It  is  recommended  that you create a  sub-directory  that  will
  51. contain  the 'REMINDERS' program and distribution  master  files.
  52. The  following  DOS command will create  a  sub-directory  called
  53. 'REMENU':
  54.  
  55.        C>MKDIR REMENU
  56.  
  57. Once  you  have created the sub-directory, select  the  new  sub-
  58. directory by entering:
  59.  
  60.        C>CHDIR REMENU
  61.  
  62. Insert  the 'REMINDERS' distribution disk in drive 'A'  and  copy
  63. all of the files on this disk into your REMENU sub-directory with
  64. the following command:
  65.  
  66.                       C>COPY A:*.* <return>
  67.  
  68. INSTALLING 'REMINDERS' ON A DISKETTE
  69. ---------------------------------
  70. The diskette that your copy of 'REMINDERS' was distributed to you
  71. on  should  not be used for running of  'REMINDERS'.  You  should
  72. first  make  a  back-up copy of the distribution  disk  and  then
  73. install  'REMINDERS'  on  either your hard disk  or  floppy  disk
  74. system.

  76. In order to run 'REMINDERS' on a floppy disk system you will need
  77. two  disk drives. One drive to contain your program disk and  the
  78. other to contain your data files.

  80. Insert the 'REMINDERS' distribution disk in drive 'A' and  select
  81. the 'A' drive by entering "A:" (return).
  82.  
  83. Insert  a blank formatted disk into drive 'B'. This is  the  disk
  84. that your working copy of 'REMINDERS' will be copied to.
  85.  
  86. Enter the following command:
  87.  
  88.                     A>COPY A:*.* B: <return>
  89.  
  90. Reboot  your  system  then   execute  REMENU.EXE   in  order   to
  91. initialize your system.

  94.                      *** HIDDEN FEATURE ***
  95.  
  96. Your  'REMENU  -  Ver. 1.12' has the ability  to  accept  a  file
  97. generated  by another user of REMENU. With this feature  you  can
  98. generate say a special file that contains only the dates for your
  99. kids high school football or basketball games. You then can  pass
  100. a copy of this file to other user's of REMENU an by just  loading
  101. it  in to their computer it will be copied into their data  base.
  102. After  it has been copied it is deleted so that duplicate  copies
  103. of it will not be entered.
  104.  
  105. To create this 'HANDOUT.DBF' perform the following steps:
  106.  
  107. 1.  Make a unique sub-director to hold a copy of your  REMENU.EXE
  108. program and copy it into this sub-directory.
  109.  
  110. 2.  Make sure that the 'REMVBLS.MEM' file does not exist so  that
  111. when  you load REMENU it will initialize a new  database  without
  112. any entries in it.
  113.  
  114. 3.  Load  REMENU and setup the date reminder's that you  wish  to
  115. pass along to others.
  116.  
  117. 4.  After you have created these date reminder's exit REMENU  and
  118. rename MDREMDRS.DBF to HANDOUT.DBF.
  119.  
  120. 5.  Copy only the HANDOUT.DBF file to as many blank disks as  you
  121. wish  to distribute. Instruct the individuals that receive  these
  122. disks  to copy the HANDOUT.DBF file into the  same  sub-directory
  123. that  hold  their copy of REMENU.EXE. Then next  time  they  load
  124. their  copy of REMENU.EXE it will look for this HANDOUT.DBF  file
  125. and  append  it  into their database. It will  then  delete  this
  126. HANDOUT.DBF file so that it will not duplicate this copy routine.
  127. They now have the date reminders in their database.
  128.  
  129. **  Note:  If  your  friends do not have  a  copy  of  REMENU.EXE
  130. (Reminders)  Version  1.12 let them have a copy of  yours.  While
  131. they  will be limited to the 50 entry limit until  they  register
  132. their  copy  they can still accept your  HANDOUT.DBF  files.  Who
  133. knows - maybe they will become a registered user. ***
